Exergen Temporal Artery Instant Themometry

TemporalScanner TAT-4000 (#EGN124275P)
(Click here to order yours today!)

Delivering an ideal balance of high performance and
affordability, the TAT-4000 meets and exceeds the
requirements of office-based practices, ambulatory
care units, including pheresis and blood donor units,
and for use in extended care facilities. This model
requires the use of disposable covers caps
(#EGN134203). The TAT-4000 is rugged enough to
be protected by a Lifetime Warranty.

Taking a temperature with a light stroke across the forehead, the TemporalScanner provides an innovative method of temperature assessment using infrared technology to detect the heat naturally emitting from the skin surface.  It is truly non-invasive, eliminating any discomfort caused by a thermometer inserted in the ear, mouth, or rectum. An accurate reproducible temperature is measured in about 3 seconds. The Temporal Scanner is a most signficant advance, applying Exergen's well-proven Arterial Heat Balance (AHB) technology to the most convenient site possible.  The temporal artery, easily visible in an infrared image, is scanned to find the peak temperature.  The patented Arterial Heat Balance (AHB) method converts this peak to a core temperature by replacing the heat lost from natural cooling of the skin.

Q. Why the Temporal Artery?

Branching from the external carotid, the superficial
temporal artery courses about 1 mm below the skin
of the lateral forehead, providing good heat conduct-
ion to the skin surface. The temporal artery is readily
accessible, and provides no risk of injury from being
touched. Since it is not an anastomosing vessel,
perfusion remains high and stable, ensuring the
reliability of conditions for the patented AHB method to compute accurate temperatures. High resolution infrared images confirm the reliability of the heat signature of the temporal artery area for all ages.

Q. Why behind the ear?

Measuring the temperature behind the ear eliminates the possibility of false low temperature readings caused by the evaporative cooling effect of diaphoresis at the temporal artery. Vasodilation, which always precedes diaphoresis, also provides the area behind the ear with the high rate of perfusion required for accurate measurement.

Q. What is the technology?

Patented infrared technology has led to the development of small, durable, infrared scanners that calibrate the arterial heat balance (AHB). One sensor measures the arterial temperature on the patient's skin, capturing the peak reading, while another sensor measures ambient. Since ambient temperature has a direct effect on skin temperature, the thermometer automatically measures both 1000 times per second and uses a patented algorithm to automatically adjust the correct AHB equation.

The Exergen TAT-4000's many features include:
